Thanks to Evangeline I have conquered my FOD2 (Fear of Docking, Fear of Divorce). In just 2 fun filled hours I learned to successfully dock our 22 foot striper at Perley’s tidal marina…. with some wind blowing as well!! What’s usually the worst part of the outing became the best thanks to her patience and humor. Get out there, ladies, and take control of the boat!
Highly recommend either Captain Evangeline or Captain Steve. We were lucky to have a boating lesson with the both of them. Fabulous job and extremely knowledgeable.
I want to thank Captain Evangeline King and my friend Tim Ginley for recommending I take boating lessons with her. I am 47 and purchased my first boat this summer. It is a 1986 17’ Boston Whaler Montauk. As a family of 4 and having very little experience previously I knew I needed lessons. Tim was kind enough to put my in contact with the best in the area. I met Captain King on July 21 behind the high school in Gloucester and she helped me launch my boat off my trailer, start the boat, navigate in and out of the “Cut”, dock, get on plane and so many other important aspects of boating. It was made 100 percent clear to me that safety is utmost importance and her knowledge on navigation, communication and boater control has helped my confidence tremendously on the water. I took an additional lesson with my 12 year old son Wes and it was extremely helpful for him to learn his responsibilities etc. on the water (she is great with kids!). That lesson was all about anchoring. Super helpful! Back side of cranes. How cool is that spot! I am so grateful to have had these lessons with her as there is no doubt I am a “better and safer” boater. She was a great teacher, her website was super helpful as I equip my vessel, and her knowledge of the waters around Cape Ann truly helped my confidence grow dramatically!
As first-time boaters, we really had no idea what we were doing on the water and desperately needed lessons to help get us comfortable and confident. Evangeline was referred to us by a friend and we could not have been happier with the experience. As a member of the Cost Guard Auxillary and lifetime boater, Evangeline is incredibly knowledgeable on boat and water safety. She is also a wonderful teacher – she’s patient, encouraging, and has an amazing demeanor. My husband took 2 lessons and I took 1 lesson and both of us are able to operate, and dock (!!!), with confidence and ease. Evanageline is top-notch and I would highly recommend her to anyone just getting into boating or for those who want to brush up. She’s truly the best!
My husband and I are new boaters and I was committed to learning not only how to drive a boat but to truly understand how to operate one. There is a decent learning curve and my fears were pretty high. Evangeline helped break down the steps of operating a boat in such a tangible way that not only helped me learn but also immediately eased my fears. The lesson was on our boat, which was key as I had to learn the ins and out of our boat, not someone else’s. Evangeline is a true teacher. She made me feel comfortable and was so approachable all while educating me. In one lesson, I leaned how to drive at different speeds, evenly plane, dock, drive in reverse and even do a few man over board saves! Not once did I feel unsafe or that any maneuver was out of my reach. Evangeline truly helped me develop boating and captaining skills-I am very grateful and look forward to more lessons and time on the water.
After buying our first boat and having no power boating experience, we were eager to start boating as quickly and safely as possible. Our first boating lesson with Evangeline not only provided us with sound basic training in launching, docking, and boat handling but also the knowledge needed to navigate the Essex River. The opportunity to practice new skills gave us confidence and a jump start. Highly recommended for beginners like us and new boaters on the North Shore.
We can’t recommend this enough!!! I’ve never driven a boat and 2 lessons in we’re docking between 2 other boats with confidence! Didn’t think that was even possible. Evangeline is a great teacher and we had so much fun. If you’re considering it, just do it, you won’t regret it!!
Great day on the water with Captain Evangeline Dukas King, thank you. Great experience and would highly recommend!
I would highly recommend Evangeline King. As someone with little to no boating experience she really made me feel welcome and provided a stress free environment to learn. Setting up the appointment was a breeze and she was extremely helpful. After two hours with Evangeline I felt more confident with boating basics and safety. Evangeline was extremely knowledge! Anyone looking to learn should use her.

My wife Kimmy and I have lived in the Essex area for almost 10 years but only recently got a boat. With two small children, we wanted to be 100% sure that we understood not only how to properly use the boat but also how to keep our family safe, in any situation. Evangeline was meticulous as she walked through the proper techniques for docking, beaching and handling the tough Northshore tides and winds. We learned a ton and had a blast. Within 2 hours of being home, we already had our second training book. I’d recommend this to anyone.
